The Gouffre Berger Cave is a French cave discovered by Joseph Berger in 24 May 1953. The cave got its name by the founder of the cave himself. This cave was regarded as the deepest cave in the world at 3680 feet deep. It was the first cave that be exploited over 1000 feet beneath the earth surface.
To return from the bottom of the cave back to the surface can take between 15 and 30 hours , without long breaks. Many tourist that consists of caving club around the world has come to break a world record by Peter Watkinson and his Pegasus Caving Club from UK that have been go down to this cave at 3717 feet. They have been emerged in this cave for 13 days long.
This entrance of this cave is within the commune of Engins high on the Vercors Plateau. To this day, the cave is the 28th place of the deepest cave and 4th in France.
