Fifth (Iron Mosque)

Assalamualaikum,



Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque emerged as a new landmark in Putrajaya. The mosque was first built by the Putrajaya Corporation in 2004 in an area of 4.04 hectares near Lake Putrajaya in Precint 3, Putrajaya and was completed in September 2009. This mosque was build following the contemporary and modern design concepts. This mosque was called as "Masjid Besi" or "Iron Mosque" because the mosque are builds by using 70 percent or 6000 tons of iron concrete and the concrete were used just for the parking lot and for the pedestrian zone beside of the mosque.



This mosque was design without any walls and being replaced by partially enclosed of Masyrabiyah Screen. This Masyrabiyah Screens around the main prayer hall is made of stainless steel material, which is kind of metallic lattice and Architectural waiving screen that allow passage of air directly from the lake into the mosque. Design of the mosque is an "airy, light and transparent. Although the main building material are made of steel, it is only used as the framework mosque. Each column of the mosque coated with transparent light materials, which is a crystallized glass that makes this mosque looks white from the distance.

The cost for the mosque is around RM204 million that consists of architectural art of Germany and China concept. This mosque was fully build by local architecture expertise that is Seni Reka Sdn. Bhd that leads by Ir. Nik Arshad Nik Mohamed for the mosque designs and build by Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad.
